Photo Projects You Can Do With Your Kids

Photo Outing

No matter where you live, it"s always fun to all get together and go somewhere where everyone can focus on what they find the most interesting by taking pictures of it.  The cost on this is low since it only runs you a bit of gas and a few disposable cameras, but your family will absolutely love sharing their images and looking at all the different things they saw while exploring the same location.

Creating a Photo Scrapbook

What better way to share the images that resulted from a photo outing than by creating a themed scrapbook together?  Even if you didn"t go on the outing, you can make a photo scrapbook of holidays, vacations, special events, or anything you want.  Let the kids create picture frames out of construction paper and decorate them with markers or stickers, and then let the family decide which photos go where.  In the end, you"ll be glad you took the time to create a wonderful book of memories that your whole family can enjoy.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts can be an enormous amount of fun if you live in a safe area or can create a place that your kids can explore on their own.  Give each family member a list of objects to find, then let them take a disposable camera out into the world to track those objects down.  You can also set a time limit to keep things moving and to prevent it from going on longer than planned.  Once everyone has finished, go by your local photo shop and see who was able to get the most photos of items on their list!

Photo Story

A photo story is similar to a scrapbook, but is a little bit more involved.  Essentially, you take a few photographs from a special time or an event, put them in chronological order, then work with your family to write captions similar to a children"s book that tell the story of the event.  You can do a photo story on just about anything like a new baby, new family pet, family vacation or anything else that"s important to the family. Then, you you place each picture in a photo frame around the house for everyone to see.

A Family Documentary

It"s worth noting that this project can be a bit time consuming, but it is definitely a unique and cool thing to do with your family.  Decide on one person to be the "subject," then have the other members of the family follow them for a day and take pictures of what they do.  Like a real documentary, you want to include all kinds of informative and interesting information about the person so each family member can learn a little something new about each other.  At the end of the project, you can all work together to create a fake biography or magazine article featuring the stories, interviews, and photographs.

There is really no limit to the fun and creativity you can have when you get your family involved in taking pictures.  Try any of these ideas out and see what a great time there is to be had just in getting to know the people that you care about most. With these fun photo activities, you"ll be amazed at the new things you can learn about your family members!
