Five Different Types of Glass

Patterned glass

Patterned glass is made by adding a molten glass layer to one side of a glass using a textured roller. There are many patterns that you can choose from including amber, blue or green ones. Patterned glass is used for decorations and for generating a degree of privacy. This degree depends on the amount of diffused light, which can vary with the pattern. Usually patterned glass comes in 4mm X 6mm pieces and it costs a little more than similar size regular glass. Tinted glass is two times more expensive. Patterned glass can be used as shower and kitchen screens or in glass doors.

Diffuse reflection glass

Glass reflects about 10% of the light that passes through it.Ň  In some cases this reflection can be the reflection of a table lamp or a window in the glass of a picture. Diffuse reflection glass has a textured surface that can be used to avoid this problem. It is 2mm thick and the price is the same with the price of a 4mm float glass.

Solar control glass

A room that is faced south can get hot every time the sun shines into it. As a result the furniture can be seriously damaged but the sunrays. Solar control glass can reduce the solar radiation that pass through the glass without cutting down the amount of light that passes through them. These glasses can be found in laminated versions. A very popular solar control glass is called Antisun. Its body is tinted bronze or grey and it is 6mm thick. Its price is the same with the price of a regular 6mm float. It can be use for doors and windows but also for table tops or glass shelves. Another solar control glass is Spectrofloat. It contains a metallic layer below its surface. The 6mm Spectrafloat is a little more expensive than the 6mm Antisun. Another way to reduce the solar radiation is to add a plastic film on a window panel. Besides reducing the solar radiation this film has the benefit of holding the pane together in case of breaking.

Mirrors

A mirror is a 6mm glass piece with a silver layer on the back. The silver layer is covered by a copper layer to ensure protection. It is possible to silver any glass piece it is a lot easier to buy a mirror. There are bronze mirrors, framed mirrors, mirror mosaics and mirror tiles that you can choose from.
