Equipment for Candles
The tools needed to make candles are not as complex as those for picking up moon rocks, yet there are plenty of them. The basic tools include the following: melting pots, one big and one small, for a double boiler; weighing scale to weigh your wax and additives; measuring cups and spoons to assure correct amount of dyes and fragrances; stirring sticks for thorough mixing; thermometer to ensure you do not exceed recommended temperatures; mold and sealer for pillar candles; wax and gel remover bottles; mold release spray; candle gloss coat; wick pin, clip, and trimmer; wax scraper; and mini white scoops.The basic tools can usually be purchased as a set from arts and crafts stores. Some of them may already be in your home being used for other purposes. As you progress in your hobby or business, you may want to upgrade, or even make your own tools.
In addition to these, it is convenient to have a pair of scissors, knife, mallet or hammer, tape measure, newspapers and paper towels ready while you are working. Of course you will need safety gear. Use oven mitts, a fire-resistant apron, and safety goggles. It is also recommended to have a small fire extinguisher within easy reach.
The list may appear long but do not get intimidated. A lot of them are already in your kitchen. If you have the proper equipment you are assured of pleasant moments creating works of art.
